MAKE A DONATION

Making a donation is a great way to benefit nautical organizations throughout Chicagoland. Nautical Donations, Inc. works with a number of not-for-profit organizations in the Chicago area. So, your donation to Nautical Donations, Inc. benefits local programs in the Chicago area and not programs located in another state or city.

Nautical Donations, Inc. only works with organizations that promote nautical activities. So your boat and equipment will only be used for boating programs and not for other non-boating related activities and programs. In fact your donation benefits those local boating programs.

Making a donation is tax deductible, which is a huge benefit to you. However, we’ve also made the paperwork involved as easy as 1,2,3.

THE 3 STEPS TO DONATE

STEP ONE
Locate your title or ownership documentation. Whether you are donating a boat or a trailer, we need you to include the title. This is probably the most important step. Without that information you won’t be able to move forward with your donation. So, please, before you fill out any forms or move forward make sure you have this documentation.

STEP TWO
Fill out our donation form. You can request a donation form be sent to you or you can stop by Crowley’s Yacht Yard to pick one up. Also,you can simply download the form right here at (www.nauticaldonations.org/donations.pdf). When you fill out the form be sure to
include as much information about your donation as you possibly can.
If needed, include an additional sheet of paper.

STEP THREE
Take your completed form to Crowley’s Yacht Yard which is located at 3434 E. 95th Street Chicago, IL 60617. If you are donating something you can easily transport, then bring it with you. Just stop into Customer Service or into Crowley’s Ship’s Store and any of our staff will be able to help you, receive the donation (if applicable) and sign your donation form.
Keep a copy of the donation for your records

Now you just benefit from the tax deductions and the fact that any of your expenses for that boat or equipment will now stop. And, Chicago area nautical organizations benefit from your generosity.

PLEASE NOTE: As mentioned we do take donations of boats, trailers and large nautical equipment. If you want to donate any of these items, please CONTACT US after you have located the title and filled out the donation form. Transporting such large equipment can be difficult and some kind of transportation arrangement will need to be reached.

ALSO, if the donation of your boat or equipment is estimated to be valued more than $5,000 then the IRS requires that an appraisal be submitted to substantiate the Fair Market Value of the item. Within 60 days of the donation a reputable and licensed surveyor will need to complete a Marine Survey which will determine the Fair Market Value of the boat or equipment. The surveyor will also have to complete Part III of IRS form 8283 if the Fair Market Value is determined to be over $5,000.
